I was born and raised in Minnesota. I have a hearty Midwestern appetite. Simply put, I love food! Some foods don't love me. My food sensitivities appeared when I was in my mid twenties and newly married. I was so sick with digestive issues that I thought I was allergic to my sweet husband. My doctor diagnosed it as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, told me to bulk up on fiber and sent me on my way. I discovered later on my own that I was lactose intolerant. Okay, that wasn't good news, but a manageable situation. Out with dairy, in with soy.
I continued to get sick after meals and couldn't put my finger on the foods that triggered cramps and flu-like symptoms.I was totally confused and hoping I wouldn't have to give up chocolate!
In the following years we had 3 kids and life got very busy. To say we had finicky eaters is an understatement. I was preparing dairy free meals for me, vegetarian meals for our kids, plus meat and potatoes for my husband. Meal time was like a three ring circus. I still didn't feel great. Stomach aches and head aches were a daily occurrence.
Three years ago, I was in a local bookstore when I spotted the book "Wheatbelly" by Dr. William Davis. OMG! The light bulb inside my head went off and I instinctively knew that the answer to my health struggles would be revealed inside this book. I discovered that I am sensitive to gluten and gluten is everywhere!
I have been on a gluten free diet ever since and feel like a new person. No more "red alert" situations where I have to find a bathroom in a hurry. Life is good.
I truly love sharing what I have learned through research, formal study and trial and error. As your Health Coach, I will help you identify foods and habits that are holding you back. Together we will create a plan to reach your goals whether they are feeding a finicky family, identifying food sensitivities or tackling weight control. I've been there. I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition* where I learned innovative coaching methods, practical lifestyle management techniques, and over 100 dietary theories – Ayurveda, gluten-free, Paleo, raw, vegan, macrobiotics, and everything in between.
My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge of holistic nutrition, health coaching, and prevention of common illnesses. I work with my clients to help make simple and sustainable lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
