Make pumpkin spice lattes at home and save some cash

Fall has arrived. The leaves are changing, the nights are getting chilly, and cravings for everything pumpkin are hard to resist. Giving in to a Starbucks grande pumpkin spice latte will cost you at least $5 and add 380 calories to your diet. Fear not, dear friends- read on for a make at home recipe that tastes great, saves calories and is low on fat and sugar to boot. ( 178 calories, 3 grams fat, 13 grams sugar. vs. Starbucks version 380 calories, 14 grams fat, 50 grams sugar).

2 ounces brewed espresso or 4-6 ounces strong coffee

2 Tbsps. pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice (contains cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves)

1/8 tsp. vanilla

1 tbsp. real maple syrup

1 cup non fat or low fat milk or milk substitute like soy, almond or cashew milk

Blend coffee, pumpkin puree, spice, vanilla and syrup until smooth with a whisk

Froth the milk or warm it in the microwave or on the stove and blend until frothy

Pour the coffee mixture into a mug

Spoon off the froth from the milk and reserve.

Pour the milk into the coffee mug and spoon the froth on top

Sprinkle pumpkin pie spice on top and enjoy!
