Herbalicious in the summertime
Summer is at its peak and the farmers markets are full of fresh herbs that can add a layer of flavor to many dishes and provide BIG bennies!
Cilantro: This little gem is known for its detoxifying properties, but did you know it also reduces nausea, bloating, water retention and has natural antibacterial qualities? Oh, and an added bonus is it helps block wrinkle formation in the skin, so sprinkle chopped cilantro on seafood, stir fries, snow peas and homemade guacamole.
Oregano: This little plant has the highest antioxidant capacity of all the herbs. It aids in ridding the body of viruses, bacteria and fungus, so can help prevent illness especially in the gut. Sprinkle it on pizza, add to pasta sauces or cooked zucchini for a boost to your immune system.
Mint: This aromatic herb has been used for centuries to treat digestive issues. It also has anti-microbial and anti-viral effects on the body. Add mint to mojitos (of course), Vietnamese spring rolls, salads, smoothies, yogurt dips and fresh fruit.
