Fall is sneaking up on us
Looking out my window, I see signs of fall…leaves on the trees turning yellow, acorns making a bumpy mosaic of browns in my yard and the nights getting a little chillier after the sun goes down. I can’t resist the urge to get organized and make plans when the seasons change. I change the colors of throw pillows, table linens, candles and rugs around the house and start to gather recipes of cozy comfort foods to cook for my husband who is a meat and potatoes kind of guy.
I also make a point of changing my skincare routine to include plenty of moisturizing steps to prepare for drier months ahead. This includes using a homemade sugar body scrub to exfoliate and soften my skin. It’s super simple to whip up a batch in your kitchen and use in the shower. I have given it as gifts in pretty jars tied with snazzy ribbon or string and people love it!!!
Here is my secret recipe…I hope you enjoy how it makes you feel.
1 cup white granulated sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted), or olive oil, or grape seed oil
Mix the two elements together then add the scent of your choice:
7-10 drops essential lemon oil
a bit of fresh lemon zest
7-10 drops of essential lavender oil
OR orange zest and 7-10 drops of essential orange oil
They all leave my skin feeling silky smooth and fresh. Get creative and play around with other scents. Just remember 75% sugar, 25% oil. Of course remember to nourish your skin from the inside out all year long by eating plenty of leafy greens, veggies, berries, avocados and nuts.
