The Benefits of Fiber
Let me define fiber before I tout all of the benefits of eating it. Fiber is plentiful in fruits and veggies like broccoli, lentils, peas, apples, artichokes, raspberries, pears, nuts, seeds, whole grains and many more.
Benefit #1…Fiber from whole foods contain complex carbohydrates. This means the fiber takes a long time to break down in the body, so it makes people feel full longer. This reduces the desire to overeat and helps keep our weight in check, reducing the risk of obesity and heart disease.
Benefit #2…Fiber feeds the good bacteria in the gut, therefore reduces the risk of colon cancer.
Benefit #3…Fiber rich foods help slow the absorption of sugar in the bloodstream, which reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
Benefit #4…Fruits and veggies also contain antioxidants which help build healthy cells and tissues to help prevent skin from premature aging and fight cancer causing free radicals.
Benefit #5…Because fiber rich foods contain many vitamins that fight inflammation in the gut, they build up the immune system.
So you see, fiber rich foods are power houses when it comes to fighting life threatening diseases .
