Hot Mulled Wine

Hot Mulled Wine

 Prep time: 30 minutes plus refrigerator time overnight

Serves: 8


1 large 1.5 liter bottle fruity red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon works well)

1/4 cup brandy

1/4 cup sugar

1/4-1/2 cup honey to taste

2 oranges, sliced

1/2 tsp nutmeg

3/4 tsp each allspice, aniseed, whole black peppercorns

5 whole cloves

3 cinnamon sticks


Place spices in a piece of cheesecloth and tie with string or twist tie

Place all ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil

Reduce heat, gently simmer covered for at least 20 minutes

Transfer to a covered container and refrigerate overnight, or at least a few hours

Remove spice pouch and oranges from the wine and reheat before serving

May garnish with fresh orange slices or star anise.
